What is the reason behind Red Ring of Death in XBox 360?
- Number 1 reason is the heat. There are a lot of high powered components within the Xbox 360 that are crowded into a small space. Each of these components emit a lot of heat.
- Microsoft uses lead free soldering because of the need to remove lead from all the places. Lead free solder tends to be more brittle.
- Microsoft failed to remove some foil on the heat sink.
- The soldering process was completed at too low a temperature. When solder which is lead free is heated to a lower temperature, the resulting joint is not strong enough to sustain.
