- Remove or disable any TSRs or programs that automatically start each time the computer boots.
- If you've got an anti-virus scanner on the computer, spyware protection program, or other security utility make sure it's not running in the background as you're trying to work.
- Make sure you have all the latest Windows updates installed in the computer.
- Make sure your computer and processor is not overheating, excessive heat can cause a significant decrease in computer performance some processors will even lower the speed of the processor automatically to help compensate for the heat related issues.
- If you've had your computer for more than one year it's likely you're computer is not meeting the memory requirements for today.
- The processor acts as the “brain” of the computer. It is the one responsible for arithmetic and logical operations; however, it may have limited speed or clock rate.
- You can either remove unnecessary files and programs or back them up on another drive or storage device or simply buy a bigger capacity hard drive.
- If you notice frequent slowdowns, crashes, or weird noises that weren't present before, the best thing to do is to have your computer checked by an expert.
