How to get rid of Blackheads?

Blackheads many a times makes you feel bad about your skin and texture. Blackhead removal seems to be the most difficult part of maintaining healthy skin regime. There’s no easy way to get rid of blackheads, the notorious annoying blemishes. A blackhead is caused by excess oil that has clogged a pore. When the pore is open, the oil is exposed to oxygen, which reacts and turns it a dark color, resulting in a black head. The black appearance of them is not caused by dirt, but by the oxidising effect of air on the sebum in a blocked pore and the melanin pigment from the dead skin cells.

How to get rid of Blackheads Naturally?

Below are some of the natural ways to remove and get rid of blackheads:

  1. Beat an egg white stiff. Add 1 tsp honey. With a cotton swab apply on the face and leave for half an hour. Rinse with warm water and pat it dry.
  2. Use a mild scrub or exfoliant to remove any dead cells and expose the blackhead. Pat your face dry. Place a slightly warm compress on your face for approximately 10-15 minutes in order to soften the blackhead, making it easier to remove. Pat your face dry again. Place a piece of tissue on the tip of each finger to avoid slipping, which could tear the skin and cause further damage.
  3. Fill a bowl/basin with boiling water, and a few drops of tea tree oil. Steam your face for about 5 minutes to open the pores and soften the skin. Moisturizing your face with a damp, warm cloth in the evening can help get rid of blackheads.
  4. You can help reduce the occurrence of blackheads by eating the right kinds of foods — this will reduce sebum production, increase good moisture in the skin and help the production of new skin cells.
  5. For cleansing your face, try using an oatmeal or almond mask. Mix either oatmeal or almond powder with sufficient rose water to make a soft paste that spreads easily on the skin. Rub this mixture on your skin with your finger, and then use it on the problem areas. Dry for about 15 minutes and then rinse off with cold water.
  6. The regular use of a yogurt-lentil mask twice a week will keep the skin clean and soft and keep blackheads and skin disorders at bay.
  7. A paste of fresh fenugreek leaves applied generously over the face at night for 10-15 minutes and washed with warm water helps prevent blackheads.

How to prevent blackheads? Steps for prvention of blackheads on skin

  1. Do not use bar soap. The ingredients that hold soap in a bar form can clog the pores in your skin. They can also cause skin cells to flake off prematurely and clog the pores. If you have dry skin you will need to use a cleanser that has a bit of moisturizer in it, but be careful! The excess moisturizers can cause an increase in oil on your skin.
  2. Keep your hair away from your face. Greasy hair and skin don’t go together, and hair can spread infection.
  3. Avoid using creamy, greasy, and thick (emollient) products. This alone will greatly lessen your chances of sprouting blackheads.
  4. Use a gentle and water-soluble cleanser.
  5. Sunshine or ultra-violet light encourages skin peeling, and so helps to clear blocked pores. So sunbathing or use of sun-beds in moderation can be helpful. Except that continuous peeling leads to skin cancer.

Smith: While it may not be the best method (the blackhead could spread under your skin causing a larger breakout) it will get rid of the blackhead for your date tonight, but yet again, it may cause redness. Apply heat to the infected area and then using the circular part of a bobby pin apply pressure to the skin on the outside of your blemish. This will cause the dirt and oil to be pushed up from the pore and out. Kind of gross to watch and yet kind of cool!
