How to get rid of Armpit Stains?

Perspiration or sweat stains on the armpits region are not easy to get rid of. These pathetic stains looks bad and makes your favourite shirt or blouse no good for all. These stains are likely caused by a combination of deodorant and perspiration. Many deodorants and antiperspirants contain aluminum salts. When these salts are combined with laundry detergent, especially in cooler water settings, they are not easily dissolved, and they remain on the fabric. A perspiration stain may not be visible right away; heating can cause an otherwise colorless stain to yellow. If you know a garment has been exposed to perspiration, treat the affected area before it becomes a problem.

  1. Try soaking your clothes in the hottest water you can find, and then pouring white vinegar directly on the armpits. After that hang in the sunlight.
  2. Try soaking the T-shirts in warm water with liquid peroxide based cleaner. Wash in the hottest water safe for the fabric. If the stain remains, dampen and sprinkle stain with meat tenderizer. Let stand for about an hour then launder again.
  3. Washing the stained clothing in a mixture of half a cup of powdered dishwasher soap with half a cup of all-fabric bleach may sometimes remove the stain.
  4. Apply a paste of baking soda and water to the stains and let sit for about 20 minutes. Wash as usual.
  5. Rub the dampened stain with a stick of chalk. If you find the right colors of chalk, you can even use this on colored fabrics.

  • Add half a cup of lemon juice to the rinse cycle of a medium load of whites. This will lightly bleach the clothing. This technique is especially effective on clothes that are then hung to dry on the line.
  • Hydrogen peroxide is sometimes sold as non-chlorine bleach and its uses are profound. Just put a couple of teaspoons on the spot, rub it in a little, let it sit, and then throw it in the wash.
  • Remember to remove the stains as much as possible before placing the item in the dryer; drying will only make your stains more permanent.

Prevention tips for getting rid of armpit stains

Timing is everything, so try to wash your clothes as soon as you can, especially after sweating excessively. For example, don’t let your sweat-drenched T-shirts linger in your gym bag for days, and always wash your white business shirts regularly. Use some palm olive on the stain and let sit for a while. My grandma used to put white vinegar in with the laundry and it used to work. Always try to remove the stain as quickly as possible before it sets in. Always test your stain-removal technique on less visible areas of the garment. Never rub. Instead, blot the stain gently with a cloth and liquid.

Try using just plain old cold water to rinse the armpits of your shirts when you get home. Apparently cold water is just enough to neutralize the acids eating away at your shirts, and simply soaking the armpits before putting your shirts in the wash should help keep your shirts free of sweat stains.
